APPLICATIONS

All the advantages of standard VESCONITE plus PTFE (Teflon) internal lubricant for dry running applications. Very low dynamic friction, longer life, no “stick slip”,

A Major Advance in DRY RUNNING bushings --

Designed to take over from standard VESCONITE in dry running situations, it is a major advance, offering many times the wear life and half the friction, while maintaining many of the advantages. Vesconite HiLube shows exceptionally low wear rates when a lubrication is additionally applied.

Long Life with little or NO external lubrication --

Vesconite HiLube has up to 5 times the wear life of standard VESCONITE. With little or no lubrication, it gives many times the wear life of metal bushings. Have an application that’s hard to lubricate or gets forgotten? – Vesconite HiLube is the bearing material for you.

Low Friction --

The dynamic and static unlubricated friction of Vesconite HiLube against steel goes as low as 0.08 – similar to glass and graphite filled PTFE. The dynamic co-efficient of friction of Vesconite HiLube remains constant over long periods of operation, unlike so-many so-called low friction materials. It declines to its lowest at 140°F (60°C).

High Load Strength --

VESCONITE HiLube has very low creep rates under design loadings of 4,351 psi (30 Mpa). Much higher load capacity than nylon, elastomers, even white metal. The load carrying capability of Vesconite HiLube is not affected by water or humidity, which is a major problem for nylon which softens in moist environments and loses up to two-thirds of its strength.

No Water Swell --

Only 0.5% at ambient (negligible in most sizing calculations). Most of the competition is way above this, with Nylon at a 9-10% water swell, and Elastomers at a 1.3 – 3% water swell. Phenolics are generally at 1.6 - 2% water swell. Water swell is one of the primary causes leading to shaft seizure.

Dimensional Stability --

The thermal expansion factor of VESCONITE HiLube is only four times that of bronze and one-third that of nylon, and lower than many of the competitors. When replacing metal bearings, Vesconite HiLube requires only slightly more operating clearance. This is a critical advantage, as the most common reasons for the failure of polymer bearings are thermal expansion and water swell.

Chemical Resistance --

Vesconite HiLube is resistant to organic solvents, oils, petrol, and diluted acids. It has limited resistance to strong acids and strong alkalies. (see Chemical Resistance Chart). For a product that would be submersed in boiling water, please take a look at the Vesconite HiTemp products.

Temperature Resistance --

Vesconite HiLube can withstand continuous temperatures up to 212°F (100°C) dry and 176°F (80°C) wet, with momentary peaks above this. Above 158°F (70°C) an expansion gap must be incorporated into the bearing design for a proper use. Load limits should be reduced to half when operating above 176°F (80°C). See the Calculation Programs for details.
